Team for Chelsea.
Quite simply a massive game - probably the last chance to keep the Champions League dream alive. Very hard to predict - we have been scoring a lot of goals recently but also conceding too many. Chelsea's form has been patchy and we have quite a good record against them at home in recent years.

Many thought the wheels would come off with Antonio and Rice absent, but that has not been the case. We continue with those two missing, but there is uncertainty about the availability of two others, namely Cresswell and Masuaku. I'll put them both in my line-up for now, but if they don't make it I would have Ogbonna on the left of the back three with Balbuena slotting in. Johnson would stand in for Arthur. Dawson is suspended.

Fabianski
Diop Ogbonna Cresswell
Coufal Noble Soucek Masuaku
Fornals
Bowen Lingard

Subs: Randolph, Fredericks, Balbuena, Alves, Johnson, Coventry, Lanzini, Yarmolenko, Odubeko.

Re: Team for Chelsea.
Same team as the OP if they are all fit. Be tempted to try Fredericks on left if Masuaku isnt fit. Mainly for his pace as we will play on the counter and he is a more defensive option when we dont have the ball. Clearly no left foot but I think we have to accept whether it been Johnson or Benrahma, they have also given the ball away a hell of a lot.

Big game today. If we want to make a statement that we belong up there, we need a big performance and something from the game. More likely to get a drubbing though if I'm honest.

I think Moyes doesn't like to definitively name the team at the press conference because it gives too much info. to the opposition. manager. Normally, if he say's we'll see on the day that means that player doesn't feature.

The Physioroom says, Masuaku 25% return for 1/5 and Cresswell 50% late fitness test to play tomorrow. Although he looks a bit of a Dandy boy I think Cresswell has a tough side and will play.

Balbuena in if Cresswell doesn’t make it.
Also wouldn’t mind if Fredericks or Lanzini started in some sort of set up!
We can definitely win this game, we have shown that over the last games. Impossible to predict thought...

Only difference is Dawson and that's a positive for me.

Re: Team for Chelsea.
I think he reason we were solid was because we didn't have many changes us conceding goals started with the changes to the back .

so again this week we will be changing the back due to injuries and suspensions, also Chelsea are a better team than Newcastle to expose those frailties. .

Sir Alf - the only damp squib around here is you, mate. (Nothing personal, you understand.)

Moyes said much the same as last week, hopefully means the player availability not the calamity defending.

Against Newcastle was worried about our injuries , it even worse now.

Re: Team for Chelsea.
If we are going to continue to play a right footer at left wing back, which give us no overlap for a cross, I'd sooner play Fredericks. He has more defensively than Johnson

Johnson undoubtedly has talent and will come good, when is given the opportunity to play on the right of defence (his best position)

All that said, hopefully Cresswell and Arfur will be fit and we can play Exile's team

Sir Alf

I would go along with that team Balbuena and Oggy have a good understanding together.

I have always thought Diop could do a similar job to Rice carrying the ball from his own half.

Re: Team for Chelsea.
Alas I foresee a "damp sqib" ending to the season. The wafer thin squad finally caught up with us IMO.

Rice, Antonio, Cresswell, Arfur ( Rice the main one ) are too much to cover for especially at the tail end of the season etc.

I watched Chelsea against Brighton. Yes they only drew but the mobility and work rate, passing of the "Festive Boys" from the South Coast was impressive. You have to think its the lack of goal scorers or poor finishing that has them near the relegation places because they looked a lot slicker than us ( us recently anyway). So I cannot see how we will get anything against an ESL clubs like Chelsea who with Pulasic, Mount etc. will have us chasng shadows. Just got to hope Moyesino springs a tactical surprise or Noble gets on the Charlie before the game and run around like the Tazmanian Devil.

In truth we know that Moyes will go for damage limitation and looking to contain in the hope we get a counter attack / breakaway goal and squeeze past them. Cant see it happening but hey ho. Team he will play is as follows and there aint too many other options other than Benrahma for Fornals / Bowen or Coventry for Noble which will never happen.

Fabianski
Coufal Balbuena Diop Ogbonna Johnson
Soucek Noble Fornals
Bowen Lingard

I would like to see Diop playing further forward, he has height and pace and scored a couple recently.

Re: Team for Chelsea.
Navel - I like that line-up but given that this game is against one of the big boys and Noble is in for Rice, Moyes is more likely to go with a back three - Balbuena in for Benrahma.

Whatever front 3 we have will be swapping positions constantly anyway.
